Reading Post / Pos Baca

Reading Posts are the center piece of our strategy to get reading materials and programs out to neglected areas. Our regional centers serve our village libraries which in turn supply these smaller Reading Posts. Each Reading post contains around 250 books, a basic cabinet (as shown in the image) and is run by a local facilitator from the local community.

Cinta Baca staff rotate in new content to these posts and also run our non-formal educational programs there. By 2010, Cinta Baca would like to have a total of 200 Reading Posts nationwide. This is only the first step in reaching the more than 50,000 villages in Indonesia that do not have a library.

There are two ways you can help us reach this goal. First there is the start-up expense of $400 to purchase the initial books, build the cabinet and provide the other needed supplies & equipment. However, we also need sponsors to help keep these posts running. The $35 / month to run a post goes toward additional supplies & books and to pay the local facilitator. If you can help us start a new post and then be its sponsor that would be great.
