About Our Programs PDF Print

The following list of programs utilize the resources and networks of our regional Learning Centers, village libraries, and local Reading Posts to bring much needed non-formal educational service to the communities we serve.

Children Programs
Cinta Baca Goes to School - To encourage students to love reading and visit the library, Cinta Baca brings the library to the school. Through this program we are able to not only promote the libraries and Reading Posts, but also raise up volunteers and even collect used books.
Story Time - Children gather at the library to hear a different story read to them each week or month. Often story time includes some drawing and writing activities. When parents come they are able to observe how to read books interactively with their children.
Get Ready - Designed to help prepare preschoolers (ages 5-6) for elementary school, this 35 week program meets twice a week and will expose children to some basic skills. These skills include introducing them to shapes, colors, numbers, the alphabet and reading. Parents work together with Cinta Baca staff to run this program which usually targets children with limited access to pre-school facilities or who lack the finances for other schools.
After School Tutoring – Many library branches offer after school tutoring to students of all ages. Some of these also run during vacation to help prepare children for the coming year.

Family Literacy Programs

Family Reading Program –  A child's success in school and life greatly depends on their family and home life. This program empowers parents of preschoolers by mentoring them through some basic skills and family habits that will help their young kids develop an

excitement for learning. The main objectives are to help parents read to their kids and provide them with practical everyday things they can do to stimulate their education.

English Programs
English Teacher Clubs (ETC)
- The purpose of ETC is to empower English teachers in the city or counties where
ever Cinta Baca is working. English teachers network together as members of these clubs and explore ways to help each other raise the level of English fluency in their region. Currently there are two English Teacher Clubs, both in West Java. The Bogor ETC started in April of 2007 and Pelabuhan Ratu ETC started in June of 2008.
BogorEnglishClub.jpgCinta Baca English Club (CBEC) - This club is made up of mostly young individuals (non- English teachers) who have a desire to develop their English skills.  The club plans a number of social and non-formal programs using the Cinta Baca facilities. This club holds monthly meetings, puts on workshops, hosts special gathering, does some outward bound type activities, Speak English days, and often volunteers to help with other Cinta Baca Indonesian programs like story telling or special workshops.
Speak English Day – From time to time Cinta Baca hosts regional speak English days which bring together English students and visiting native speakers. These days focus mainly on strengthening conversational English skills and building cross-cultural relationships and understanding.

Teacher Programs

TESOL_workshop.JPGSpecial Seminars / Workshops - Cinta Baca has also sponsored a number of special educational workshops or seminars in partnership with the local government, local universities, Department of Education, Department of Libraries as well as other private organizations. In the past several years these seminars included topics such as TESOL (Teaching English to Students of Other Languages), Teaching English Creatively, Public Speaking, and Managing a Library.

Teacher Exchanges - When possible, visiting foreign teachers are connected to public school teachers in the areas where we have libraries. This has mostly been done in connection with the English Teachers Clubs but could also involve other types of teachers as well.

Other types of Programs

Cooperative Programs - Cinta Baca seeks to work together with businesses to cooperatively meet the educational needs of the communities. These programs vary in nature but usually involve a partnership with a private company and then focus on a specific need. One example was when Cinta Baca worked together with Carefour Deptartment Store in Jakarta to help disadvantaged children in one school.
